Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love responds to the Patrick Mahomes comparisons.
Entering his second year in the league out of Utah State, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love does see a little bit of Patrick Mahomes in his game.
“Deep passes and being able to make plays, I think that’s where you can compare us,” said Love on the Move the Sticks podcast with The NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah. “I feel like I’m comparable him in that aspect.”
Drawing any comparisons to the Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback is flattering to say the very least. While Love certainly did not ask for this type of praise, he definitely is not backing away from it. What are the chances Love lives up to the hype in Green Bay or will the patently absurd expectations mar his NFL career trajectory before it really gets off the ground with the Packers?
Jordan Love does not back down from the lofty Patrick Mahomes comparisons
Look. Comparing quarterbacks to first-ballot hall of famers like Drew Brees or transcendent talents like Mahomes is unfair to everyone. Nobody is going to be Brees or Mahomes, as they are the outliers when it comes to undersized signal-callers or incredibly raw Air Raid gunslingers from the Big 12. There is no way Love will ever become the next Mahomes because no one ever will.
However, Love did back up a great quarterback his first year in the league in 2020 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. All signs point to him taking over the team as early as 2022. Love did show a great deal of promise during his 2018 season at Utah State, but regressed in his junior year after the coaching staff followed Matt Wells to, interestingly enough, Mahomes’ alma mater of Texas Tech.
If Love is half as good as Mahomes, then the Packers have hit on their third quarterback in a row.
